This dragonfly welded metal sculpture is an early sculptural work from 2007. Made from scrap metal stainless steel, auto parts, and rebar. Dragonflies fascinate me with their gossamer wings and fantastically jagged flight patterns. They are fierce hunters and a close up of a dragonfly mouth is a scary sight. So this metal sculpture honors the hunter aspect of dragonflies. When people look at dragonflies they say “how beautiful!”, lumping dragonflies with butterflies. I wanted to illustrate just how impressively monstrous their jaws are, so I made this sculpture with a 48″ wingspan.
